Expedition brief

For those who want a pure taste of Real India Expeditions but cannot commit to a month-long journey, The Deccan Escape is the perfect entry point.

In just 7 days, you will cross the heart of the Deccan Plateau to camp at the rim of Gandikota (The Grand Canyon of India), ride through the monolithic ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire in Hampi, and carve your way through the Western Ghats down to the Arabian Sea.

It concludes with a mandatory two-day stop in Goa to wash the red dust off in the ocean before the fast highway sprint back to base.

Itinerary route photos & videos
  1. Day1

    Hyderabad → Gandikota

Distance: 380 kmRiding time: 7 hours

Leave the urban sprawl of Hyderabad behind as we drop into the vast, red-earth expanse of the Deccan Plateau.

A stop at the ancient Belum Caves system offers a surreal underground walk before we hit the final trails.

Arrive at Gandikota, the Grand Canyon of India, riding right to the edge where the Pennar river cuts through 300 feet of solid granite.

Camp near the gorge, swapping highway noise for absolute canyon silence under the stars.

  2. Day2

    Gandikota → Hampi

Distance: 280 kmRiding time: 6 hours

Wake up to a canyon sunrise before heading west toward Karnataka.

The landscape shifts from flat arid plains to a surreal, extraterrestrial terrain dominated by massive boulders.

Ride into Hampi, the capital of the ancient Vijayanagara Empire, navigating your motorcycle through stone chariots and 14th-century temple ruins.

Evening exploration of the boulder hills to watch the sunset over the Tungabhadra river.

  3. Day3

    Hampi → Goa

Distance: 340 kmRiding time: 7-8 hours

A technically demanding and highly rewarding day as we leave the dry plains and assault the Western Ghats.

The temperature drops and the air turns humid as we carve through dense tropical jungles and winding mountain passes.

The final descent drops us straight onto the Konkan Coast, trading mountain twisties for the salty breeze of the Arabian Sea.

Roll into our base in Goa just in time for a seafood dinner by the beach.

  4. Day4

    Goa → Goa

Distance: 0 kmRiding time: 0 hours

Rest day. While you explore the beaches, historical Portuguese forts, or simply recover by the ocean, our technical team performs routine inspections, chain maintenance, and basic servicing on the rented fleet to ensure absolute reliability for the return leg.

  5. Day5

    Goa → Goa

Distance: 0 kmRiding time: 0 hours

Second rest day. Goa demands time to be properly experienced. Rent a surfboard, explore the spice plantations, or enjoy the vibrant coastal culture before we turn the bikes back inland tomorrow.

  6. Day6

    Goa → Hubli

Distance: 160 kmRiding time: 4 hours

A relaxed morning departure from the coast. We climb back up the Western Ghats, leaving the ocean behind.

A shorter riding day designed to get us past the mountains and positioned on the main highway network.

Arrive in Hubli, a bustling commercial hub, to rest up for tomorrow’s final sprint.

  7. Day7

    Hubli → Hyderabad

Distance: 400 kmRiding time: 7 hours

The final push. A high-speed cruise along the NH44 corridor.

Watch the landscape dry out and flatten as we re-enter the state of Telangana.

Return to base in Hyderabad, officially earning your Level 1 Explorer patch and completing The Deccan Escape.
