MEDICAL MODULE

1. Altitude, Oxygen & Acclimatization Protocols

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) occurs due to reduced barometric pressure and fewer oxygen molecules per breath above 2,800 meters. On expeditions such as Ladakh or Spiti, we will ascend from 3,500m in Leh to over 5,300m at passes including Khardung La and Chang La.

Golden Rules of Altitude Safety:

  • 48 Hours Rest in Leh (3,500m): Our itinerary guarantees active rest on Days 1 and 2. No strenuous exercise or immediate high-altitude rides.
  • Daily Pulse Oximeter Checks: Every morning and evening, the expedition lead checks each rider’s blood oxygen (SpO2) and heart rate.
  • Medical Oxygen Onboard: The 4x4 backup vehicle carries medical oxygen cylinders and full trauma/altitude emergency medical kits.
  • Hydration Discipline: Drink 4 to 5 liters of water daily. High dry air dehydrates quickly. Strictly avoid alcohol and heavy caffeine during the first 3 days.
  • Acetazolamide (Diamox): Consult your physician prior to travel. A prophylactic dose (125mg every 12 hours) started 24h before landing in Leh significantly accelerates pulmonary acclimatization.

PROTECTIVE ARMOR

2. Technical Motorcycle Riding Gear Checklist

Weather in the Himalayas and Deccan shifts in minutes. You might ride under radiant sunshine and two hours later forge a glacial river crossing amidst sleet. Layering is your primary survival strategy.

🪖 Certified Helmet

Full-face or modular adventure helmet with ECE 22.05/22.06 or DOT rating. Clear visor with Pinlock anti-fog insert is essential for sub-zero high pass crossings.

🛡️ 4-Season Textile Suit

High-denier Cordura or textile shell with CE Level 2 armor at back, shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. Removable thermal liner and zippered vent ports required.

🧤 Two-Pair Glove Strategy

Pair 1: Insulated waterproof winter adventure gloves (Gore-Tex/Primaloft). Pair 2: Ventilated leather gloves for warm valley riding.

🥾 Rigid Adventure Boots

Tall, waterproof touring/enduro boots with rigid ankle braces and shin guards. Must withstand glacial water crossings and flying gravel.

🐑 Merino Wool Base Layers

2 sets of 100% merino wool thermal tops and bottoms (200–260 gsm). Regulates core temperature when wet and resists odor across multi-day rides.

🌧️ Heavy-Duty Rain Suit

One or two-piece high-visibility waterproof oversuit for torrential Himalayan downpours or monsoon crossings.

🧳

LUGGAGE & LOGISTICS

3. Luggage Strategy & Support Vehicle Handling

On all our expeditions, you ride unencumbered. Our dedicated 4x4 chase vehicle and support truck transport your heavy luggage from hotel to hotel every single day.

  • Main Duffel (Chase Vehicle): One waterproof 50–70L duffle bag (max 15 kg / 33 lbs). Please avoid rigid hard-shell suitcases as they do not stack efficiently in the support truck.
  • Day Pack / Tail Bag (On the Bike): A 2–3 liter hydration pack (CamelBak) or small 15L tail bag for passport, camera, snacks, spare warm gloves, and sunglasses.
  • Batteries in Sub-Zero Weather: Lithium-ion batteries drop up to 70% capacity in freezing conditions. Keep camera and phone batteries in interior jacket pockets against body heat. Bring a 20,000mAh rugged power bank.

BORDERS & PAPERWORK

4. Visas, International Driving Permits & Military Permits

  • Indian e-Tourist Visa: Apply online at the official portal (indianvisaonline.gov.in) 15 to 30 days before departure. A 30-day or 1-year multiple entry tourist visa is recommended. Print at least 3 paper copies.
  • Nepal Visa on Arrival: For the Himalaya & Nepal Expedition, visas are issued on arrival at Kathmandu Airport (Tribhuvan). Bring 2 passport photos and $30–$50 USD cash.
  • Driving License & IDP: You must carry your physical, original valid motorcycle license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) conforming to the 1949 Geneva or 1968 Vienna Convention.
  • Inner Line Permits (ILP): Military border clearance permits for Pangong, Nubra Valley, Hanle, and Tso Moriri are handled and procured entirely on your behalf by our team in Leh.

CONNECTIVITY & CURRENCY

5. SIM Cards, Cash & Digital Disconnection

Due to national border security regulations, standard Indian prepaid SIMs and roaming eSIMs do not function in Ladakh. Our team in Leh assists all riders upon arrival to register a local postpaid Airtel SIM card.

Embrace true disconnection: remote sectors like Pangong Lake and Hanle have zero cellular reception. ATMs in the mountains frequently run out of cash or lose power; carry cash INR exchanged in Delhi or Leh.
